Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said, "We are in store for a nice warm-up though in the next few days.". Highs are expected to increase to 66 degrees Friday and Saturday in Atlanta. Lows are forecast to reach 36 Friday and 52 Saturday. The cold blast has led to drops in pollen this week. Down from a count of 251 Friday, there are 45 particles of pollen per cubic meter of air Thursday, according to Atlanta Allergy and Asthma. Pollen count is still in moderate range, but lower than past 24 hours. Trees & grasses are low. Last year's season high was 4,107 particles of pollen per cubic meter of air, and the pollen count this time last year was 670. With the official start of spring just days away, similar spikes in pollen can be expected. In the next few weeks, Dr. Stanley Fineman told Channel 2 he expects to see more patients having problems with pollen. "When the weather gets warmer we'll see the plants pollinate more and, at that point, patients will likely have more trouble with their symptoms," Fineman said. JOHN SPINK /JSPINK@AJC.COM
