Hold meetings in public to avoid suspicion
Another metro Atlanta city council is investigating a leak (“Dunwoody probes City Council leak,” ajc.com, Feb. 22).
This time, Dunwoody mayor Mike Davis is leading the charge.
Former DeKalb County District Attorney Bob Wilson will investigate for $150 an hour.
Memo to Mike Davis:
Save yourself and your constituents a lot of money and meet in the open.
If there is a disagreement among council members about something the council is thinking about doing, those differences ought to be aired in public.
When you conduct county business in private, you invite public suspicion.
Whether the suspicion is warranted or not shouldn’t matter.

Taxing Internet sales levels playing field
As a small business owner with less than $1 million in revenue per year, I have been watching the debate about sales tax collection.
Due to the shopping habits of our customer base, I have closed four of our six stores and ramped up the Internet shopping site.
My sales staff encourages our customers to shop on our website at a discount competitive in our market.
My retail stores sell the same products but also offer product knowledge and sales items not on the web.
I pay sales tax to every county we deliver to in Georgia.
My web setup and accounting system would allow me to easily pay a set tax rate to any state in the U.S. and its protectorates.
It’s time to seriously look at a way to collect sales tax from all Internet purchases that are delivered in the U.S. to increase our tax base — and to level the playing field for all retailers and customers.

Sound energy policy needed to lower cost
Gas prices may hit an all-time high this summer?
Where is the outrage over what to do about this?
In years past, when gas prices rose, the media demanded to know what the administration would do about it.
Gas prices are killing our economy.
Costs for filling up the family tank and trucks transporting goods are making it impossible for the economy to recover.
Why has President Obama stalled permits for offshore drilling?
We have the oil, yet the special interest groups control the administration’s energy decisions.
Let’s bring the debate to the people.
The media should also demand answers that will help families afford their daily needs.
Fix oil — and the economy recovers.
