WOODYARD, Herbert Freeman
Rev. Herbert Freeman Woodyard, 95 of Bowersville, GA went to be with the Lord on January 8th, 2021. He was preceded by his wife of 70 years, Martha Waters Woodyard, in 2016 and is survived by daughters Bonnie Nipper (Ray) of Hull, GA, Laura Skelton of Conyers, GA and Amy Cornett (Bob) of Bowersville, GA; 4 beloved grandchildren, Nathan Nipper (Audrey), Angela Chambers, Chandler Turner Todd, William Douglas Turner (Chelsea) and 6 wonderful Great-grands; Alaura Dollar (Jacob), Emily Nipper, Natalie Nipper, Melanie Nipper, Presley Todd and Esme Todd. He is also survived by brother Hal Woodyard (Judy), sisters Grace Britt, Lillian Huff and Faye Minch, sister-in-law Rachel Waters Atkins (Norm) and many nieces and nephews. Rev. Woodyard was born May 28, 1925 in Chattanooga, TN, graduated from Boys High in Atlanta, Received his BA at Mercer College in Macon, GA and his Masters of Divinity from Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY. He served as Pastor of Baptist churches across the Southeast for over 50 years, leading his congregations to reach out and start new missions, mentoring many young people to full-time ministry. Serving Christ & others was his message. In later years, Herb & Martha were known throughout Georgia for entertaining church and civic groups with music, love, laughter and joy. Herb's harmonica playing and "Bing Crosby-sounding" voice were the perfect compliment to Martha's fun and talent. In recent years, Herb has lived with daughter Amy & her husband Bob near Hartwell, Georgia assisted by family and wonderful caregivers Kristy Pierce, Judy Quick, Peggy Thomason and Jimmy Bailey. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Jan 13th at 2:00 pm at Floral Hills Memory Gardens 3000 Lawrenceville Hwy, Tucker Georgia. Rev. Doug Turner, officiating.
