RILEY, Phyllis P.
Phyllis P. Riley, 93, passed away peacefully at her Atlanta home on Sunday, September 19, 2021. Born in Columbia, SC to Helen McIver Patterson and Daniel W. Patterson, Phyllis was raised there and graduated from Booker T. Washington high school in 1944, and received her BA from Hampton University in 1948.
She and her husband raised their 3 children in New Orleans, LA. There, Mrs. Riley worked at the Amistad Research Center. After the family relocated to Atlanta in 1973, she worked at the Atlanta University School of Business for 22 years before retiring in 1995.
Mrs Riley was preceded in death by her husband, Edward E. Riley, Jr. She is survived by her children, Carole H. Riley, Marcia Riley Steele (husband, Algernon O. Steele) and Edward E. Riley III; grandchildren, Michael A. Steele (wife Ashley) Christopher D. Steele, and Chenelle N. Prescod, great-grandchild, Nathan, her sister, Jean Patterson Boone and many loving family members and friends.
A private memorial service is planned for the morning of October 8, Friendship Baptist Church, Atlanta, GA. Service will be streamed due to Covid protocol.
