GILES, Alan Richard

Alan Richard Giles of Atlanta, GA passed away on January 4, 2021 from complications from Parkinson's with bi-lateral pneumonia.

Alan was born in Dayton, OH in 1942. He graduated from Gordon Military College and furthered his education at Reinhardt University, served in the US Army. Alan worked several different careers. He retired from the USPS after 37 years in Management/Marketing.

He will be forever remembered for his warmth, his kindness, his gentle sense of humor and his elegant but casual style of dress that somehow was exactly right for every occasion.

He was preceded in death by his son, Alan Porter Giles; his mother, Ruth Sheats Giles and brother, Bryan Giles.

Alan is survived by his wife, Angela Porter Giles originally from Metter, GA; his step father, Ira B. Giles; step sister, Claire Giles both from Marietta, GA and niece, Brandy Giles Rogers of Metter, GA.

He was a member of Kingswood United Methodist Church in Dunwoody, GA. He held many church offices and taught elementary Sunday School.

You always wanted Alan on your team because he was honest, dependable, calm and steady as a rock, but more important than his accomplishments. Alan was simply a good man.

In lieu of flowers, he had a passion for sports; consider a donation to Georgia State University Foundation for GSU Athletic Dept or Gordon State College, Barnesville, GA for their Nursing Program.

At his request, no services will be held.
