CAMP, II, Eugene Vernon "Gene"

Eugene "Gene" Vernon Camp, II of Daytona Beach, FL and formerly of Decatur, GA passed away on Dec 14, 2020 from complications of various health issues. Gene was born on Dec 4, 1949 to John and Pauline "Polly" Camp. He was raised in Decatur attending Fernbank Elementary and graduating from Druid Hills High School in 1967. Gene was the grandson and namesake of EV Camp, founder of EV Camp Steelworks for which North Druid Hills Road was built during WW2 in order to help the war effort. EV invented guardrails still in use today. The Camp family donated the property on which the VA Hospital was built in the 60's. During the 60's, 70's and 80's pretty much every young person in Decatur attended one of Gene's epic parties - or knew someone who did. Clairmont Decatur Lamps was Gene's shop in Georgia, but then he moved to Daytona Beach about 20 years ago and Lampcrafters was born. Gene was a talented artist who created beautiful chandeliers and spent most days working at his shop on International Speedway Blvd. Gene was active in the Daytona Community and became president of the Beachside Neighborhood Watch several times. He leaves no immediate survivors, but leaves behind a wealth of friends in Decatur and Daytona who will miss him very much. A summer graveside service at Decatur Cemetery is planned with details to follow.
