BETHEL, Charles Shepherd

Charles "Charlie" S. Bethel, 88, died September 19, 2021 at Northside Forsyth Hospital in Cumming, GA. He was born July 31, 1933 in Wheeling, WV, son of Wilmer W. and Francis (Shepherd) Bethel.

Charlie graduated from Flushing High School in OH, Class of 1951. He attended Ohio Northern University and graduated from the School of Pharmacy in 1955. Early in his career, he worked as a Pharmacist and Store Manager for Haag Drug Store in Lima, OH. Later he was promoted to Pharmaceutical Buyer and Vice President of Haag Drug in Indianapolis, IN. He enjoyed his career and continued working part-time as a pharmacist well into his seventies.

Charlie was married to his high school sweetheart, Margaret (Copeland) Bethel for 50 years.

Charlie was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved to fish, and in his younger years enjoyed golf, skiing, and hand ball. He was an avid Indiana Hoosier and Indianapolis Colts fan. He was a member of Johns Creek Methodist Church. He lovingly knitted prayer shawls and was a member of the Joy Club. He loved riddles and was a connoisseur of dad-jokes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Margaret, brother John Bethel, son Michael Bethel, and son-in-law Naser Azimi. Surviving are his two daughters: Sue (Larry) Davis, and Lisa Azimi, sister-in-law: Helen Bethel, and former daughter-in-laws: Gayla Bullington and Patty Such, granddaughter: Jennifer (Andy) Stancil, grandsons: Brent (Katia) Bethel, Ryan (Katie) Bethel, Sean (Charisse) Davis, Michael (Brandi Cantrell) Azimi, Matthew (Bailey Grigsby) Azimi and Marcus Azimi, seven great-grandsons, a great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM, Sat., Nov. 13 at Johns Creek Methodist Church, visiting with family at 10 AM. Those who wish to remember Charlie may make gifts in his memory to Johns Creek Methodist Church, 11180 Medlock Bridge Rd., Johns Creek, GA 30097 or the National Kidney Foundation.
