Bomb squad called to Sandy Springs apartments

What appeared to be a hand grenade found in the Sandy Springs Magnolia Apartments complex turned out to be either an old practice grenade or a paperweight, police said.

A Cobb County bomb squad was called to investigate a suspected hand grenade found Monday morning in the complex at 7100 Roswell Road, where two buildings were evacuated.

The object was found upright and alone at the rear of the complex’s 3100 and 3200 buildings, which were evacuated, said Lt. Steve Rose of the Sandy Springs Police Department.

The Cobb County bomb team determined late Monday morning that the grenade did not contain any explosive.

Officers found the object while responding to a call in the complex, Rose said.
