A dog in Plano, Texas, accidentally shot its owner, according to police.

Police in Plano, Texas, are investigating after they say a dog accidentally shot its owner in the leg.

KSAT in San Antonio reported that officials with the department announced the news in a Nov. 2 Facebook post.

“Imagine having your pistol tucked inside your waistband and while picking up your dog, a paw gets lodged in the trigger and fires the weapon, sending a bullet into and through your thigh,” the post read. “Well, that happened here in Plano.”

The Dallas Morning News reported the male owner of the dog did not have any life-threatening injuries.

“Fortunately, it was just a through and through shot — it didn’t hit a main artery or anything,” Plano Officer David Tilley told the publication. “He took himself to the hospital and he’s fine.”

The department reminded the public of safety precautions to take when handling and storing weapons, including making sure the firearm is in a safe holster that protects the trigger from inadvertently firing.
