During a carjacking in a northeast Atlanta neighborhood Saturday evening, police said a suspect chased after the victim with a gun before taking her keys.

The carjacker approached a woman as she was exiting her car near the corner of Virginia Avenue and Briarcliff Road in Virginia Highland, Atlanta police spokesman Officer Jarius Daugherty said in a statement to AJC.com.

“The victim stated that the male pointed a handgun at her and demanded that she exit the vehicle” at about 8:15 p.m., Daugherty said.

She complied, but then took off running with the car keys in her jacket pocket, she told police.

Authorities said the man ran after her, eventually catching up and taking the jacket and keys. He drove away in the car; a police report did not say whether it has been found.

Police did not say if the man has been identified or arrested.

The woman was not injured and the carjacking is under investigation.
