A South Georgia woman filed a lawsuit in Atlanta against AutoZone last month claiming she was fired for unlawful discrimination.
On Friday, the Thomasville woman released a statement through her Atlanta-based attorney, Ian Smith.
She said AutoZone “didn’t seem to care” about her and that no one should have to go through with what she dealt with that day.

The African-American woman’s lawsuit stems from a March 2017 incident where a white male commercial customer called her, among other offensive things, “a worthless piece of (expletive),” racial epithets and “a black (expletive),” according to the suit.

Her full statement: “Dealing with the public, you know you are going to have the occasional difficult customer. But no one should have to deal with what I dealt with that day. And what really makes this so hard is that AutoZone just didn’t seem to care about me or anyone else that complained. Standing up for yourself and holding the company accountable is not something I ever asked to do, it is something I have to do.”
AutoZone spokesman Ray Pohlman said the company does not comment on pending litigation.
Smith, the woman’s attorney, said that AutoZone has been served with the lawsuit and its response is due soon. A trial date has not been set.
