A 52-year-old Gwinnett County woman has been arrested for allegedly using a flammable liquid to set her house on fire.
Judith Laura Anderson is accused of setting her Gates Mill Drive home on fire, then escaping through the back door of a master bedroom, according to Gwinnett County fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge. She faces one count of first-degree arson, Rutledge said.
Anderson was the only person inside the Lawrenceville home at the time of the blaze, Rutledge said. A cat in the home did not survive.
Firefighters responded to the fire at 7:39 p.m. on Jan. 9, Rutledge said. Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from the single-story wood frame house. The fire caused extensive damage to the home, Rutledge said.
Evidence from the home was taken to a fire forensics lab for analysis, Rutledge said. Anderson was arrested on Tuesday.
If convicted, Anderson could face up to 20 years in prison.
