The University of Georgia selected Dale Threadgill to serve as interim dean of the new College of Engineering.
Threadgill, who has served as director of the Faculty of Engineering since 2001, will take on the new role when the college opens July 1. He is scheduled to retire next summer.
UGA has been growing its engineering programs for more than a decade. It has, or will soon have, 15 different engineering programs.
The State Board of Regents narrowly approved three engineering degrees for UGA in 2010. The plan sparked statewide debate because Georgia Tech offers similar degrees. The regents unanimously approved new master's and Ph.D. engineering degrees for UGA in February.
