Pleasant Hill Road and the Interstate 85 exits accessing Pleasant Hill have re-opened after a gas leak caused a closure for more than an hour. The blocks surrounding Gwinnett Place Mall were closed for more than an hour.
The gas leak closed the road from Satellite Boulevard to Breckinridge Boulevard/Shackleford Road, cutting off access to the mall and I-85 ahead of Thursday’s rush hour. The road reopened around 4:30 p.m.
The leak was caused when a utility crew struck a 2-inch gas main while digging along Pleasant Hill Road. Nobody was evacuated from nearby buildings, but people inside area businesses were ordered to shelter in place.
The Gwinnett County Police Department pulled officers from other precincts to help direct traffic to minimize congestion, the department said on Twitter. No injuries were reported.
