The heat index for Thursday is expected to reach between 102 and 106 degrees in metro Atlanta, according to WSB-TV meteorolgist Karen Minton.

The isolated thunderstorms that popped up in the metro Atlanta area during an otherwise sunny Wednesday afternoon are likely to return Thursday and Friday.

High temperatures are expected to remain in the middle 90s, with lows only dipping into the middle 70s, WSB-TV Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns said.

Thursday is expected to be mostly sunny, but there is a 20 percent chance of afternoon storms, Burns said.
