In a summer filled with traffic-jamming weekend road construction, this could be the worst weekend of all, with numerous closures planned for interstate lanes and interchanges.

On the southside, three lanes of I-75 northbound will be shut down from Forest Parkway to Cleveland Avenue from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. on Monday.

On that same stretch of interstate, the ramps from I-75 northbound to I-285 eastbound and westbound and to C.W. Grant Parkway will also be closed throughout the weekend, along with the ramp from I-285 eastbound to I-75 northbound.

Lanes will also be closed on I-75 southbound near Jonesboro Road and from Old Dixie Highway to Mt. Zion Boulevard from 8 p.m. Friday through 8 a.m. on Saturday.

Construction on I-20 in DeKalb County will shut down several exit ramps at various times during the weekend. Ramps scheduled to be closed include the exit from I-20 eastbound to I-285 southbound, the eastbound exit to Evans Mill Road, the entrance ramp from Evans Mill to I-20 westbound, the eastbound entrance ramp from Turner Hill Road, the westbound exit ramp to Turner Hill and the ramp from I-285 northbound to I-20 westbound.

On the other side of downtown, two lanes of I-20 westbound will be closed between Joseph Lowery Boulevard and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Scattered thunderstorms could hamper the roadwork, as Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz is forecasting a 30 percent chance of rain on Saturday, up from 20 percent on Friday.

Temperatures will remain hot, with afternoon highs expected to reach the mid-90s throughout the weekend.

Major events that could impact traffic this weekend include Braves games at Turner Field at 7:35 p.m. on Friday, 4:10 p.m. on Saturday and 1:35 p.m. on Sunday, and a Primerica convention that the state Department of Transportation said is expected to draw 55,000 to the Georgia World Congress Center on Saturday afternoon.
