Following the cancellation of last year’s Fourth of July fireworks show in Powder Springs due to lack of funding, this year will be different as the city celebrates the Fourth of July with not only fireworks but also several new changes.

They include the April 6 groundbreaking of the downtown park, the May groundbreaking of a soccer complex by former Olympic soccer star Michelle Akers, new downtown businesses, a new townhome development and a new hotel.

With free admission, SpringsFest on the 4th will be presented by the Powder Springs Business Group and the city of Powder Springs.

“We are thrilled to once again experience and enjoy July 4th in Powder Springs with the leadership and organization of the Powder Springs Business Group who agreed to undertake this momentous celebration as a part of their annual SpringsFest event,” said Powder Springs Mayor Al Thurman.

“The 4th has always been a popular community event in Powder Springs; and PSBG’s programming always offers fun, good food and great entertainment,” Thurman added.

The July 4th festivities will start at 4 p.m. at Powder Springs Park, 3899 Brownsville Road, with live entertainment and performances, food trucks, children’s games and activities, artisan vendors, bouncy houses, a game truck, Giant Bubbles by Sweet Pea the Clown & Markey, an Interactive Dance Party by Kim Armstrong – A Popular Dance and other surprises for the 10,000 to 15,000 expected to attend.

The event will close with the fireworks show at around 9:30 p.m.

“This will be a grand celebration that brings the local businesses and families together,” said City Councilman Henry Lust.

“PSBG is a true partner in collaborating with the city to create an atmosphere of community,” Lust added.

SpringsFest on the 4th also is sponsored by Croy Engineering and Greystone Power.

More sponsors and vendors are needed to make this community event a reality, according to Petergaye Rhodes of PSBG.

Interested sponsors and vendors may sign up at SpringsFest4th.com or call Rhodes at 404-954-2576.

A Business Ambassador for the city of Powder Springs, the Powder Springs Business Group (PSBG) “brings local business owners and the community together to maximize business opportunities and provide greater visibility through marketing, community events, lunch ‘n’ learn seminars, monthly business mixers and partnerships,” according to Rhodes.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Simple Needs Georgia, a nonprofit organization based in Marietta that assists homeless Cobb County families and individuals with transitional housing, supplies and basic needs.
