With daytime temperatures soaring during the current heat wave, two people face cruelty to animal charges in Roswell after they allegedly left dogs inside hot vehicles, Channel 2 Action News reports.

Carlos Munoz, 57, of Roswell was cited Tuesday afternoon after he left his nine-week-old Golden Retriever puppy for about 45 minutes in his 2009 Ford E-250 van outside a Home Depot in the 1500 block of Holcomb Bridge Road, police said.

The van’s windows were rolled up, police said.

A Roswell resident, Mary King, told Channel 2 that she heard what she thought was a dog in distress and followed the sound to Munoz’ vehicle.

“I was very concerned, just wanted him out of the car,” King said. She added that she asked the store manager to find the dog’s owner and then called police.

In another case, Roswell police said they cited Kristen J. Waldhofer, 32, of Sandy Springs on Saturday morning after she left a dog in her 2002 Mercury Mountaineer in the parking lot of a Walmart in the 900 block of Mansell Road.

An unnamed individual alerted an officer on patrol about the dog. The windows of the vehicle were partially rolled down, and the driver was in the store for 45 minutes, police said.
