DeKalb County authorities say they’ve charged the parents of a 2-year-old girl who died after ingesting Oxycodone, the opioid pain killer.
Aubree Hendrix of Norcross consumed the drug sometime on March 7 or 8 at the father’s Stone Mountain home, according to warrants released Monday.
The child later suffered cardiac arrest.
Jazea Lyles, 20, of Norcross and Jalen Hendrix, 22, of Stone Mountain are charged with felony murder and cruelty to children due to negligence. In Georgia, one doesn't have to have intended to kill to be charged with felony murder.
Police haven’t revealed exactly how the child is believed to have ingested the drug at the father’s home on Summerview Drive off South Hairston Road.
On Friday, the DeKalb Sheriff’s Fugitive Unit arrested Hendrix at a business in Lithonia and Lyles at a home in Norcross.
Both remained in jail without bond on Monday.
