A Norcross Housing Authority employee was arrested in Hall County after deputies stopped his city truck and found a suspected cocaine pipe, authorities said Wednesday.

Deputies initially suspected the 2007 Dodge had been stolen when it was spotted around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday on Mundy Mill Road, about 30 miles from Norcross, the Hall County Sheriff's Office said. On I-985 south, deputies conducted a traffic stop on the truck.

Anthony Cullen Mabe, 53, of Duluth was driving the vehicle, authorities said.

Mabe, an employee of the Norcross Housing Authority, told deputies the vehicle was assigned to him, but that he was not in Hall County on city business, the sheriff's office said. Instead, Mabe was on the way pick up his son from work in nearby Gainesville, he allegedly told investigators.

The man had a glass smoking pipe filled with what appeared to be cocaine residue, according to the sheriff's office.

Mabe was arrested without incident, charged with possession of cocaine and booked into Hall County Jail, police said. He remained jailed without bond Wednesday evening, a spokeswoman for the jail told the AJC.

The Norcross Housing Authority could not be reached for comment Wednesday evening.
