The first new state park in Georgia in 18 years will open to the public on July 1.
Chattahoochee Bend State Park in northwest Coweta County off Flat Rock Road will be a destination for paddlers, campers and anglers, with 2,910 acres, four miles of wooded trails, seven miles of river frontage and a half-mile hike to an observation platform that has forest and river views.
There is an RV and trailer camping section and riverfront platform sites and walk-in sites for tent campers. The Scouts and other organized groups get a private area with screened Adirondack shelters and a fire pit. It's the first new state park since Tallulah Gorge State Park in 1993.
The grand-opening ceremony is at 11 a.m. at the park’s visitor center. Information: http://gastateparks.org/ChattahoocheeBend. TY TAGAMI

The Georgia Supreme Court has reversed DUI convictions against Emily Marie Davenport, arrested in Cobb County, and Lisa Yeary, arrested in Gwinnett County, and ensured accused drunk drivers have access to critical out-of-state witnesses.
Trial judges blocked the women from subpoenaing witnesses and records from the manufacturer of the Intoxilyzer 5000 to challenge their respective .156 and .179 breath-test results.
State law for intoxication is .08.
Davenport said she may have taken an asthma medication that skewed the breath-test result. Yeary argued the machine didn't compensate for radio frequency interference from cell phones. STEVE VISSER
