A man led police on a high-speed chase after he stole a mother's car in Coweta County, police confirmed to Channel 2 Action News.
The Coweta County's Sheriff Office told Regan that the man took the car after he crashed another stolen car next to the mother's house.
“The victim said a vehicle wrecked in the ditch in front of her house. And he came over and said I need your vehicle. She backed away from her vehicle for her safety. He got into it and took off," Lt. Keith Addis told Regan.
Patrol units spotted the stolen car driving on I-85 and began a chase that went on for more than 10 miles. Addis said the driver lost control and went into the woods.
Firefighters helped pull the suspect from the crushed car. The man was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, despite not wearing a seatbelt.
“It got up to around 100 mph reported to us by deputies and he wouldn’t pull over," Addis said. “Luckily, no one else was hurt."
Police said the suspect had no outstanding warrants.
