The lanes were reopened before the start of the Friday morning rush.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Irvin Smith, 29, Covington.
Atlanta police told the news station Covington tried to avoid a stalled Honda Crosstour and veered into a left emergency lane before hitting the Honda on its side. The motorcycle was speeding at the time of the crash, police said.
The Honda was disabled after a collision with a tractor-trailer, Capt. Reginald Moorman told Channel 2. The driver of the tractor-trailer kept going and may not have realized the truck came in contact with Honda, he said.
Smith died on the scene, police said. The driver of the Honda was taken to a local hospital with injures that police do not consider life-threatening.
