Funding of more than $180,000 for “The Wall That Heals,” the Autrey Mill Nature Preserve & Heritage Center, and a proposed Greenway Trail along the Chattahoochee River has been approved by the Johns Creek City Council.
The Johns Creek Convention and Visitors Bureau recommended the tourism-related projects for funding by out of the city’s 7% hotel/motel excise tax, according to an agenda report.
Specifically, $70,000 will go toward Phase II installation of The Wall That Heals, a 250-foot replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Newtown Park. Second-phase plans call for a granite façade and lighting.
Autrey Mill will receive $56,291 for improvements “to enhance the destination’s appeal to heritage tourism travelers and functionality as a small event venue,” the report said. The Greenway Trail will get $54,509 for a study.
The council deferred action on $55,000 for a second gateway marker to the city, proposed for westbound State Bridge Road at the Chattahoochee River; that project will be discussed at an upcoming council work session.
