The so-called Wig-Wearing Bandits were back again Thursday but minus the long, black scraggly hairpieces, the FBI says.
On Thursday, the Chase Bank on 1250 Tech Drive in Norcross was robbed. The robbers -- two men who went inside the bank and a third behind the wheel of a get-away car -- weren’t wearing the shoulder-length black wigs this time, but federal agents said that was the only difference in Thursday’s robbery from eight others that have happened since late July.
Two men entered Chase Bank around 12:40 p.m. Thursday and ordered customers to get down on the floor. One of the men stood by, holding a weapon described as a machine pistol-type firearm, the FBI said.
The other man walked to the teller station and demanded money, but didn’t get any, the FBI said.
The men left, driving off in a gold-colored Kia Spectra. The car was reported stolen from DeKalb County on Wednesday, federal agents said.
Authorities found the car behind the bank, but the three men were nowhere in sight.
Wells Fargo said it will give a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the robbers.
The FBI believes the men are connected to a string of take-over robberies in metro Atlanta. In each incident, they were carrying guns, authorities said. They were not always wearing wigs.
