An East Point police officer was free on bond Thursday night following his arrest for allegedly punching his ex-girlfriend in the face in front of their 8-year-old son.
Marcellus Antonio Wilcher, 36, of Atlanta, was arrested Wednesday night by Clayton County police after he drove an unmarked police car to the woman's home to pick up the boy, according to police.
While at the woman's Isleworth Circle home, Wilcher hit her in the face while the child looked on, police told Channel 2 Action News. Wilcher's ex-girlfriend told Channel 2 the blow knocked her off her feet.
"You pushed [the woman] in the face and moved back with a closed fist to strike her again," Clayton County Judge Beatrice Scott said Thursday afternoon during Wilcher's bond hearing.
Scott set bond at $10,000, and Wilcher was released from jail shortly after 5 p.m., according to booking records.
The East Point Police Department was unavailable for comment on the case Thursday night.
