A few widely scattered showers popped up over parts of metro Atlanta Friday morning, but Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton is forecasting dry weather for this weekend’s baseball games and outdoor festivals.
Friday’s 20 percent chance of morning rain will give way to sunny skies later in the day and on Saturday and Sunday, Minton said. Afternoon highs will be in the mid-80s, with overnight lows in the low 60s.
That dry forecast will be welcome news for baseball fans headed to Turner Field for the Braves games Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday afternoon against the Orioles, and to Coolray Field, where the Gwinnett Braves take on Columbus Friday and Saturday nights and again on Sunday afternoon.
Other outdoor events abound this weekend, from Friday night’s annual Decatur Beach Party in downtown Decatur to Friday and Saturday’s Midsummer Music & Food Festival in Candler Park and the Atlanta Fest contemporary Christian music festival that wraps up on Saturday at Stone Mountain Park.
Other weekend events include Atlanta Dream games Friday night and Sunday afternoon at Philips Arena and the Hot 107.9 Birthday Bash Saturday night at Philips Arena.
As usual during the summer months, there will be plenty of road construction on metro interstates this weekend.
The state Department of Transportation said there will be “rolling closures” on I-75 in both directions from just south of Ga. 5 to just north of Barrett Parkway in Cobb County between 9 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday, as well as work on the exit ramps in that area.
In DeKalb County, the right lane of I-20 eastbound near Wesley Chapel Road will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.
Construction is planned on the ramp from Ga. 400 northbound to Lenox Road from 8 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday, while in Gwinnett County, varying lanes of I-85 in both directions north of Jimmy Carter Boulevard will be blocked by roadwork all weekend.
