The Smyrna City Council renewed, by a 7-0 vote on Aug. 20, a special land use permit for a modular classroom building at Covenant Christian School.
The temporary prefabricated building is on the school’s 8.83 acres at 3130 Atlanta Road on property shared with Smyrna Presbyterian Church.
The city’s planning commission also recommended 7-0 approval along with the staff advocating approval with one condition, allowing only a two-year renewal.
This renewal is the fifth two-year renewal as the school raises funds to build a permanent facility.
Located along Collier Drive next to several existing buildings, the building is 56 feet by 68 feet with a total area of 3,808 square feet and provides four more classrooms for the school.
Founded in 1975, the school added an annex in 2008 to accommodate the second, fourth and fifth grades.
Now CCS has more than 190 students in K-4 through eighth grades, according to the school’s website at CCSsmyrna.org/about/history.cfm.
