The Atlanta Police Department is seeking the public’s help apprehending a man suspected in as many as seven sexual assaults in the Buckhead-North Atlanta area – the most recent attack happening last weekend.

A woman living in the Lindberg Drive area returned home around 4 a.m. Saturday with her roommate, police said. Shortly after going to sleep, she awoke to a man fondling her and making sexually suggestive remarks.

The man left the apartment but stole some property prior to fleeing, police said.

Police described him as a black man, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a dark complexion and wearing a gray hooded sweat shirt and dark-colored pants.

In six prior assaults dating to late 2009 in the Buckhead area, a suspect with a similar description had sexual contact with the victims, made sexually suggestive remarks and stole property as he fled, police said. In each case, there was no indication of forced entry.

Police said the prior incidents occurred Dec. 6, 2009 on Peachtree Park Drive; Jan. 1, 2011 on Lenox Road; Jan. 5 and 19, 2011 on Peachtree Park Drive; Oct. 31 on Lindbergh Drive, and Nov. 12 on Peachtree Park Drive.

The most recent victim was able to provide enough information to produce an artist’s rendering of the suspect, police said. Zone 2 officers, meanwhile, have stepped up patrols in the Lindbergh area, and investigators with the Special Victims Unit are working the cases.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Atlanta Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip through www.crimestoppersatlanta.org. Tipsters can remain anonymous and can be eligible for a reward up to $2,000.
