A Marietta mother has been jailed for allegedly beating and killing her 4-year-old son in 2016.
Andrea Mendez, 25, was booked Tuesday on several felony charges, including malice murder.
According to a warrant, Mendez hit her son with a leather belt and left three semi-circle bruises on his legs and thighs. There was one scabbed bruise where the skin had broken.
Medical staff at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite treated Ulisses Mendez on Oct. 18, 2016, according to the warrant. They estimated that the alleged abuse took place sometime in the two weeks prior.
Mendez was arrested but bonded out on what was first-degree child cruelty charges.

Kim Isaza, spokeswoman for the Cobb County district attorney’s office, said the boy died shortly after going into the hospital.
Mendez was not immediately charged because the autopsy and medical examiner’s report took time to complete, Isaza said.
“We were waiting on those before formally charging the acts,” she said.
The autopsy report determined the cause of death was “abusive head trauma.”
During that time, Mendez was out on bond after paying $27,720.
The Cobb sheriff’s office fugitive unit and the U.S. marshals arrested Mendez in Texas on Aug. 14, jail records indicate.
As of Friday morning, Mendez was in jail with no bond.
