A man charged with killing his wife and her 10-year-old daughter in Butts County has surrendered to authorities.
Butts County Sheriff Gene Pope said that Herman Lamar Jackson III, accompanied by his pastor, turned himself in to the Henry County jail on Sunday. Butts authorities then picked him up and were taking him in for questioning, Pope said.
When Jackson surrendered, "He said, ‘I know I'm in a lot of trouble,' " Pope said.
Jackson, 43, is charged with committing the killings late Friday or early Saturday at the couple's home.
Jackson is charged with the murder of his wife, 41-year-old Penny Phillips, and her daughter, as well as aggravated assault and cruelty to children, Pope said.
Jackson hit Phillips on her head with a blunt object and then stabbed her in her neck, and he then killed the 10-year-old by stabbing her, Pope said.
Investigators said they found Jackson's Ford F-150 pickup truck late Saturday afternoon.
