A student was killed Monday in a fiery single-vehicle crash about a mile from home after leaving North Cobb Christian School, officials said.
Kathleen Sutz, 18, of Acworth, was set to graduate in May from the school, which is located between Kennesaw and Acworth, principal Megan Strange said.
“I spoke with Kathleen’s father and he said, ‘Kathleen is with Jesus,’” she said in an email to North Cobb Christian families. “I know that we are all devastated to hear this news and take great hope in the fact that Kathleen is in heaven.”
According to the Georgia State Patrol, Sutz’s car was traveling west on Graves Mountain Road in Paulding County about 2:15 p.m. The car left its lane, veered off the roadway and hit a tree, the agency said.
The vehicle came to an uncontrolled rest and burst into flames, according to the GSP. Sutz died on the scene.
“She put her faith in Christ, so we know where she is today,” said Todd Clingman, North Cobb Christian’s headmaster.
He described Sutz as someone who “loved people” and was “very accepting of people.”
Students gathered Tuesday morning to pray.
“Our entire faculty, along with our student life and counseling staff, are available during this time and throughout the days ahead,” Strange said.
