Alpharetta authorities issued a community alert Wednesday after a second home invasion in recent months targeted an Asian Indian family, Channel 2 Action News reports.

Shortly before 8 p.m. Nov. 23, armed robbers burst into a home on Park Glenn Drive, robbing a family at gunpoint of gold and other valuables.

Alpharetta police have called a meeting Sunday with the local homeowner’s association to talk about the incident and what residents can do to protect themselves, Channel 2 reports.

Satish Musunuri, an Alpharetta restaurant owner, told Channel 2 that word of the attacks is spreading rapidly through metro Atlanta’s Indian-American community.

“It is so bad for our community,” Musunuri said. “Now all the people are scared about this.”

Musunuri said many households are safeguarding their valuables so they don’t become targets of future home invasions.

“We are not keeping any precious gold or jewelry in our home,” he said.

It’s the second such home invasion in Alpharetta in recent months. In September, five masked men tied up another Indian family and stole their gold. Cobb County police are working on a similar case, a violent home invasion in the Cameron Glen subdivision this summer.

Besides mentioning the home invasion, the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety cited in its alert a “small rash of burglaries” in the Crabapple and Windward areas in the past two weeks, mostly in the morning after residents leave for work or while they are out of town.

“Entry was made most often by force through a back door or window,” the alert said.

Police urged residents to be aware of activity in their neighborhoods and to call 911 immediately if they see any suspicious activity.
