Umbrellas are getting a workout in metro Atlanta this week.

A warm front moved in Tuesday and the metro area picked up 0.04 inches of rain, Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said.

Much more is in store.

There is an 80 percent chance of rain Wednesday and the risk for severe storms overnight, he said.

"Damaging winds will be the main threat with an isolated tornado possible," Burns said.

The area will get a break Thursday, he said, then strong storms return to the forecast.

During the overnight Friday, a stronger system will move in with more severe storms, possibly supercells, with more damaging winds and isolated tornadoes, Burns said.

Through it all, temperatures are expected to reach highs in the mid 70s, with lows in the high 50s to low 60s.

The average high this time of year is 60 degrees, but temperatures will be well above that, Burns said.

"All this fuel will feed the thunderstorms rolling in," he said.
