Alpharetta has joined a select list of 464 places nationwide designated a Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists, city officials announced.

The North Fulton city was recognized for “its leadership and investment in infrastructure, education and outreach,” officials said.

The league based its evaluation on 10 “building blocks” that include the ratio of total bicycle network mileage to road network mileage, the presence of bicycle friendly laws and ordinances, and how well a community is implementing its written bicycle plans, officials said.

“This national recognition for Alpharetta is a result of a tremendous number of hours of collaboration between Bike Alpharetta volunteers and city leaders in the departments of Public Works, Public Safety, and Recreation and Parks,” said Bill Lusby, president of Bike Alpharetta, a non-profit organization that has been working with the city since 2011.

Communities that earn the BFC designation must renew their status every four years. Information: https://bit.ly/2QLzOM5
