This is "Actual Factual DeKalb," a regular column in which I answer reader questions about goings-on and history in DeKalb County.
Reader Hardy B. asks: Regarding Rockbridge Road....are there any plans to widen it?
We got a live one, Hardy.
I only rarely have occasion to travel the road, but I hear people hate it.
It’s so...narrow. It backs up, holding up and, I imagine, infuriating busy folk.
I made a few calls, got a few answers, found out the state has no plans. I also came upon a county employee, who I bet works real hard and is a fine man, but Hardy...
I must be honest, Hardy:
I don’t think you’re going to like this very much.
From David Pelton with DeKalb County’s transportation department:
“There are plans to add a center turn lane, sidewalk, and a bike lane to a short section of Rockbridge Road from Allgood Road to Rowland Road in Pine Lake. Scheduled construction is 2018.”
That stretch of Rockbridge Road spans the city of Pine Lake.
That’s the smallest city in DeKalb.
That project is less than a mile long.
What about the rest of Rockbridge Road?
David Pelton from the transportation department comes in for the kill:
“We don’t have any other plans for Rockbridge Road at the moment.”
