Eaves, who was first elected to the board of commissioners in 2006, announced in February he was entering the mayoral race. He said he has proven that he is able to bring “diverse constituencies together for common goals” as chairman of the state’s largest county.

Tuesday was the first day that candidates could officially file paperwork to qualify to get their names on the ballot. The election is less than three months away.

Eaves told Channel 2 he plans to file his paperwork about 9 a.m. Wednesday and canvass neighborhoods later in the day.
