Students in elementary grades three through five at Academy for Classical Education in the Bibb County School District earned proficient or better on 60.0 percent of Georgia Milestones tests in language arts and math. This is above the state average of 40 percent. The 2017 Georgia Milestones tests, start in third grade and measure student knowledge in English and math. Students in fifth and eighth grade also take tests in science and social studies. How well a student does will determine which one of four rankings they will fall into in each subject matter. Students who score the best qualify as distinguished students. The next grouping, proficient students, have mastered the basics. Developing learners have some of the material down, but need more time or help to get on track fully. Beginning learners will require substantial help to catch up. In language arts, 59.0 percent of students at Academy for Classical Education scored in the proficient range or above. This is a 6.5 percentage point decrease from 2016. In math, 61.1 percent of students ranked as proficient or better. This is a 2.3 percentage point increase from 2016. A distinguished rating in language arts was earned by 16.8 percent of third-graders, 26.2 of fourth graders and 14.9 of students in the fifth grade. In math, 31.5 percent of third grade students, 15.2 percent of fourth graders and 17.0 percent of fifth graders earned distinguished designations.
