Two people investigators believe to be a married couple were found dead in a car in Gainesville on Thursday morning in a suspected murder-suicide, officials said.

Gainesville police identified the couple as 55-year-old Rosa Ojeda Contreras and 60-year-old Zenaido Alejo. Investigators believe Alejo first shot Contreras, then himself, police said. Their bodies were found in a car in a cul-de-sac at the end of Deerwood Trace in the Willow Ridge development.

Alejo and Contreras lived in Gainesville and have adult children, according to police.

“We would like to remind the public that our community has an abundance of resources for those impacted by domestic violence,” police said in a statement, followed by a link to the Gateway Domestic Violence Center.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
