Man shot, killed by stray bullet at cousin’s birthday party outside McDonough club

His family told Channel 2?€™s Tom Jones that he didn't deserve to die this way.

A birthday party at a club in Henry County ended abruptly when a shooting broke out in the parking lot. Instead of a celebration to remember, it’s now the cause of a funeral.

Decoby Barlow, 31, was shot and killed by a stray bullet at his cousin Leshaeldrick Stafford’s birthday party at the Traxx Lounge and Grill off Ga. 155 around 2 a.m. Sunday, Channel 2 Action News reported.

“I did not invite my family out for somebody to get killed,” Stafford told Channel 2. “I saw him die right in front of me. Man, that’s the worst thing I ever been through in my life.”

Stafford told the news station Barlow was getting in a car when three men opened fire outside the building, and a stray bullet hit and killed him. The club had several bullet holes in the wall near the entrance.

Jalon Edwards, 28, was arrested in connection with the shooting. McDonough police told the news station two other suspects are wanted. Their names were not released.

Stafford is also upset that the five armed security guards at the club weren’t able to stop the violence.

The club’s owner declined to comment to Channel 2 about the incident.

Edwards faces three felonies, including charges of murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commision of a felony, Henry County Jail records show. He remains in jail without bond.
