DropBox led to alleged online child pornography stash, Cobb man’s arrest

A Marietta man remains in jail after authorities found videos containing child pornography involving girls between ages 5 and 16 stored online, officials said.

Raymond C. Smalley, 29, faces five counts of child sexual exploitation and is in the Cobb County Detention Center on $25,000 bond, according to jail records. Smalley allegedly committed the crimes between November 2016 and March, according to Cobb County arrest warrants.

Authorities were tipped off to the alleged crime after DropBox officials found five videos of suspected child pornography on Smalley’s account. DropBox is a file-hosting site that offers online cloud storage.

DropBox officials notified the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which then sent the cyber tip to the GBI, according to warrants. Marietta police were sent the tip from the GBI.

Authorities received Smalley’s account information from DropBox and tracked the videos to an IP address at the 2200 block of Haverhill Court in Marietta.

Smalley was arrested at an office building on the 1100 block of Northchase Parkway near Delk Road in Marietta, according to jail records. He has a probable cause and bond reduction hearing scheduled for Aug. 23.
