Yes, we are working on Juneteenth.

It’s fine! I mean, we’re covering Black culture over here. The work continues, and it’s work we’re proud to do. But yes, I shall be reclaiming my time with a vacation soon enough.

Juneteenth is complicated, isn’t it? On one hand, it’s an acknowledgement of disinformation that kept enslaved Black people from realizing they’d already been freed. Speaking totally for myself, that doesn’t feel like something that calls for a celebration.

On the other hand, Juneteenth gives us an opportunity to celebrate ourselves and our communities, to realize the resilience it takes to be Black in America, and to reflect on that topic one way or another.

We have a great package of Juneteenth-related stories below, and there’s still time to find Juneteenth events around Atlanta in The LineUp if you’re in the mood to commune today.

Also a quick note about the contest in your previous UATL newsletter: Last week, we mistakenly announced the wrong game for our Atlanta Dream ticket giveaway in this newsletter.

We’ve since extended the entry period for one lucky UATL supporter to win two tickets to see the Atlanta Dream battle the Minnesota Lynx at Gateway Center Arena on June 27th. Enter now for a chance to win.

As a reminder, our monthly ticket giveaways are exclusive to UATL Supporters. If you haven’t upgraded yet, you’re missing out on extra perks! Follow this link to become a Supporter.
