The 28-year-old rapper, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, was taken to the LAPD Valley Jail . The probation department is listed as the arresting agency.
He was released just after noon PST, according to the LASD website. Later Friday, the rapper posted a profanity-laced live Instagram video to update his fans.
"Yeah, I'm out... I just got out of jail right now and I'm performing at the Clippers game," he said, while sitting in the passenger seat of a car. "Tell you, this (expletive) ain't going to start... I had the biggest comeback of 2018 and they try to lock me up, they try to hate on me...I'm the hottest rapper in the game."
USA TODAY has reached out to the LAPD and a representative for Soulja Boy for comment on the arrest.
Way was sentenced to two years of probation in 2014 after being convicted of carrying a loaded firearm in a public place. He was previously arrested by the LAPD in 2016 for allegedly violating his probation after a firearm was found in his home.
Soulja Boy had been scheduled to perform at halftime of the LA Clippers home game against the Chicago Bulls on Friday night, he previously announced on Instagram.
USA TODAY has reached out to a representative for the Clippers regarding if the performance is still scheduled.
Less than an hour before Friday's arrest, the rapper tweeted, "If you heard some (expletive) about me come ask me first."
The rapper has had a rough 2019 so far; in January, his car was involved in a massive mudslide in Malibu, California.
