Four ways to workout with your pet in metro Atlanta

When you're a dog owner, daily walks with man's best friend are nothing unusual — they're a part of the routine. But with so many canine lovers throughout the Atlanta area, there are plenty of events, parks and trails that are friendly towards Fido. Check out these four ways to exercise with your pup in Atlanta.

Run the Beltline to Piedmont Dog Park

Park Dr. NE, Atlanta.

One of Atlanta's most popular green spaces for human fitness fiends hosts its fair share of energetic pups, too. Those looking for a long run can park at Krog Street and run the two-mile stretch to Piedmont Park before venturing further to a fenced-in spot for dogs to run around off the leash. The Piedmont Park Conservancy hosts events for man's best friends, too.

Toss a Frisbee with the Greater Atlanta Dog & Disc Club

Ever felt like your pup made frisbee look like a bona fide Olympic sport? Well, there are plenty of other Atlanta canines going for the gold. The Greater Atlanta Dog & Disc Club offers an organized opportunity for dog owners to get outside and toss the frisbee with their four-legged friends, with competitions, carnivals and just-for-fun meetups. Refine your skills enough and you just might wind up a champion!

Take a leisurely jog through Brook Run

4770 N. Peachtree Road, Dunwoody.

Beautifully maintained by a group of dedicated volunteers, Brook Run offers trails and playgrounds alongside the fenced-in two acres used for its dog park. With the recent addition of a special section for small dogs, this revitalized Dunwoody outdoor spot is a great place to take pooches of all sizes. Let your pup roam leash-free, and take advantage of water stations (and, y'know, poop stations) throughout the doggy paradise.

Sign Up for the Stray Dog Strut

Johns Creek veterinary institution Jones Bridge Animal Hospital will hold its fifth annual Stray Dog Strut on October 30, allowing its clients and community dog owners to join them in a 5k race complete with dog costumes and prizes. Proceeds from the race go toward Atlanta-area rescue animals, ensuring the furry friends receive medical care, shelter and love until they find a forever home.
