Faith leaders and members of the community will hold a prayer vigil Thursday outside of Columbia Presbyterian Church in Decatur to announce plans to offer sanctuary to immigrant youth and families.
The church will also announce new efforts to counsel immigrant families.
This vigil will culminate in a foot washing of immigrant youth. Foot washing is a Christian ritual that shows service and compassion by following Jesus’ example in the Bible
The vigil begins at 10 a.m. at the church, 711 S. Columbia Dr.
Among those scheduled to attend are Jessica Colotl, DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipient; the Rev. Tom Hagood, Chair of the Atlanta Sanctuary Movement and pastor of Columbia Presbyterian Church ; Ricardo Green, director of Spanish Ministries, Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church ; and the Rev. Caroline Magee, assistant rector, St. Bede’s Episcopal Church.
