Robin Wright assumes the presidency in first look at ‘House of Cards’ final season

It’s Claire Underwood’s turn.

Netflix has at long last released first-look images for the sixth and final season of “House of Cards,” and confirmed that the political drama will return before the end of 2018.

The photos focus squarely on Robin Wright’s Claire, who will assume the presidency in the new season after her husband, Frank (Kevin Spacey), resigned. Spacey was expected to continue on in the series, but was fired shortly after production resumed in the fall, as allegations of sexual assault against him, by actor Anthony Rapp and others, began surfacing. (Spacey apologized to Rapp but said he had no memory of their encounter, and has denied other allegations. He announced he was seeking “evaluation and treatment” in November.)

In the behind-the-scenes pics, we see Wright playing Underwood as president, even occupying the Oval Office. The actress is the sole lead of the sixth and final season, with Greg Kinnear and Diane Lane joining the ensemble in support. Rounding out the main cast are returnees Michael Kelly, Jayne Atkinson, Patricia Clarkson, Constance Zimmer, Derek Cecil, Campbell Scott, and Boris McGiver. Plot details on what will unfurl remain sparse for now.

“House of Cards” season 6, which began production earlier this year, will run for an abbreviated eight episodes, and premiere sometime in 2018. Check out the first-look photos below.
