Robert Wojciechowski was prepared when clattering balcony furniture signaled the arrival of Monday night's thunderstorms.
"I was amazed by the violence of the storms," said the 32-year-old software architect, who snapped some breathtaking pictures from inside his Midtown condo. His building's PA system had warned residents to stay away from their windows, but Wojciechowski, from his vantage point on the 34th floor, wasn't going to miss this storm.
In fact, he came home early to prepare.
"I would normally be out on the patio but it was too crazy," he said. Starting a little after 11 p.m. and continuing into the morning, Wojciechowski snapped hundreds of frames, using a Canon 5D Mark II camera. By keeping the camera shutter open for several seconds he was able to capture images of lightning striking the lightning rod atop the Bank of America building.
The Michigan native relocated to Atlanta just over a year ago, unaware that his new home would accommodate his passion for observing dramatic weather.
"I didn't think of Atlanta as anything but a big airport," Wojciechowski said. "But the variety in weather is mesmerizing."
