EASLEY, Charles

EASLEY, Sr., Charles F. Charles F. Easley, Sr. passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2018. He was a Father, Educator, Sr. Administrator, Mentor and Friend. Born in Dalton, Georgia, May 3, 1935, he was the surviving youngest of 13 children. He received an honorable discharge from the United States Army as an officer in 1962. A member of Radcliffe Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, he was Moderator Emeritus of the Men of Radcliffe, and had served as both Elder and Trustee. He was the Vice Moderator of the 215 General Assembly for the Presbyterian Church PCUSA. He was a graduate of Emery Street School-valedictorian (Dalton, Georgia), Knoxville College (Knoxville, Tennessee) 4-sport athlete/Major League Baseball draftee, Atlanta University, now Clark College (Atlanta, Georgia) Columbia University Teacher's College (New York City), and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He was a high school teacher and multi-championship coach at Stephens High School (Calhoun, GA), a college professor, faculty advisor of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, and Dean of Students at Morris Brown College, Dean of Students at Atlanta Jr. College, and he retired as Vice President of Student Affairs of Atlanta Metropolitan College, now Atlanta Metropolitan State College. On two occasions, during which time he led the search committee, he served as Interim President at Atlanta Metropolitan College. To stay active in his love of sports, he also was a 3 sport official with The Quarterback Club for high school and played semi-pro basketball. He was a 1963 GA Teacher of the Year, 1971 Outstanding Educator Awardee, and recipient of a host of other Leadership and Achievement awards. In the community, he served on many boards, and committees most notably Trinity School (Vice Chair), Sheltering Arms (President), The Westminster Schools (Christian Education Committee), SACS-Accreditation and Education Committees, West Fulton Rotary Club now West End (President), Paul Harris Fellow, and member of Leadership Atlanta. He was an avid sports enthusiast, knowledge seeker, Rotarian, and man of God. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018, 11 AM at Radcliffe Presbyterian Church, 286 Hamilton E. Holmes Dr., Atlanta, Georgia, 30318. Interment will be at the Lincoln Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. Andrews L. Stephens, Jr. His wife, Helen S. Easley, and all his brothers, sisters and most in-laws preceded him in death. He is survived by Tania P. Easley (daughter), Charles F. Easley, Jr. (son) granddaughters, Jenna Bailey (great grandson-Christopher Prothro), Jessica Bailey, sister-in-law, Madge Easley, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
