Photo: Curtis Compton shifts to subscription service, a new website that offers exclusive in-depth content plus breaking news, made the transition Thursday to a subscription-only product of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The newspaper had offered a free preview since’s debut April 2. Access to the premium site is now included with AJC subscriptions, including the daily newspaper and tablet apps.

The AJC joins other major news organizations that are catering to readers who want the look and feel of a traditional newspaper on digital devices. is the newspaper’s latest digital enhancement. In December, the AJC launched a Today’s Paper app that enables subscribers to read the print edition on tablets in the familiar page-by-page format.

“Readers have told us they value print and want us to continue seven days a week,” AJC Publisher Amy Glennon said. “Our new digital products provide more value to our subscribers.”, the newspaper’s current breaking news website, will continue to be available without subscription. The newspaper plans to retool with a focus on breaking news and entertainment, as well as more emphasis on videos, photo galleries, social media and interactive graphics and databases.

“We are working now on improvements to,” Glennon said. “It will continue to be the best local source for breaking news, the day’s big stories and entertainment content.”

Subscribers to will have access to breaking news and all AJC staff stories and photos found in the daily printed newspaper; in-depth watchdog and investigative stories; links to obituaries, comics and syndicated columnists; and weekly features such as Homefinder and the AJC’s Go Guide. The content is presented in a clean, uncluttered format that is easy to navigate.
