The Georgia Department of Labor is offering internships for college juniors and seniors and technical college students.
Interns may work in the state’s job placement and vocational rehab offices. The program runs year-round and offers work experience, school credit and up to $2,400. Students who’ve previously interned with the Labor Department aren’t eligible.
Nearly 140 students participated in last year’s program, which ran only during the summer. The Labor Department has set aside $83,000 for this year’s program, enough for 36 students.
The scaled-back program is financed from penalties assessed on Georgia employers late in paying unemployment taxes, said department spokesman Sam Hall.
